Advertising icon zombies ...

So we know Orville Redenbacher for being a friendly appearing old man from Indiana who appeared in ads as the spokesman for his popcorn brand.

Well, some idiot at ConAgra (CAG)'s advertising firm of choice has decided that as a follow-up to their reruns of the original ads from the 1970s (80s?), they'd have some guy in makeup pretending to be Orville Redenbacher having bloopers in his original ads.

Thanks to INTERNETS, looks like Crispin, Porter & Bogusky (Google Finance) are the ones to blame -- I'm not the only one who thinks it's just freaking tasteless.

Intentional on their part? Trying to generate buzz? Well, they've succeeded. I'm sticking with the King Stoopid's brand for my air popper (thanks illyanarasputin). Poor form guys.

(P.S. Just read the bottom of the Wiki article, apparently Gary was quoted as saying "this is a way to honor his legacy" ... I still disagree.)
